First Creeper of the 2013!

It finally happened, and it was everything I wanted it to be! That's right, I got to play with my first little critter for 2013! :D

The little critter is a small spider. I think it is a ground spider from the particular eye arrangement and body shape, but I am not knowledgeable enough to confirm this in confidence. I posted these pictures on bug guide as well and am waiting on responses from more experienced identifiers.

The above pictures were shot by my sister and myself  yesterday (Feb 16th, 2013) afternoon at the end of the Farmer's Market. I did not have my own camera but my sister was kind enough to lend me hers and even take a few pictures of it herself since I proved barely capable of operating her camera.

My uncle Dixon discovered it and secured it for us to get these pictures. The little critter was slow, almost sluggish as he explored the carrot scrap he is seen on above. This made for some excellent photographing and no issues finding a hiding place in the building since I could not bring myself to let it go outside with the snow and ice.

About Creeping Critters

Hello and welcome!

This is a blog first and foremost about all the wonderful bugs, reptiles and critters in the world we live in, especially ones I photograph against the backdrop of life wherever I may be. I mostly engage in amateur entomology photography (bugs and insects) but I will likely be posting other sorts of interesting photos and tidbits I discover while going about my day.

Also of some minor importance is a brief biography: my name is Sara and I am a recent graduate in economics from the University of Saskatchewan. I think I would have studied entomology if there was a program available when I started my university classes in late 2005 but this is speculation on the past. I was born in raised in Saskatoon, SK Canada, and since toddler-hood I have chased, eaten, kissed and been generally fascinated with bugs for most of my memorable life. In 2008 I developed the habit of stealing digital cameras owned by close family members to photograph bugs and was eventually given a good digital camera of my own as a birthday gift in spring 2011. This officially began my seasonal obsessions with entomology photography and the creation of this blog.

I hope you enjoy what you find here, whether you visit for fun or educational endevours  You may notice that several of the photos have been previously published on another site called http://bugguide.net/node/view/15740. I use this website and post photos quite frequently as a reference and learning resource. I highly encourage you to check it out, especially if I am not providing you with any of the answers you seek.

Cheers and good hunting!
Sara :)
